Ganesh Chaturthi is around the corner and Hindus all over the world are ready to celebrate the festival. While everyone follows their set of pooja patterns and styles there are some common ideas that are asked to be taken care of and we have listed a few below. These are influenced by mythology, take a look at them:

  1. Ganesha is veiled:

Covering Lord Ganeshas face is considered tradition before bringing home. It’s believed that Lord Ganesha first needs to see your house and your face hence darshan shouldn’t be made available to anyone before entering or the sthapana puja.


  1. Essentials of Ganesh Chaturthi:

Various parts of the country have different requirements however there are some ingredients that are key and common to the pujas. These mainly include uncooked rice, turmeric, vermillion, incense, a silver tray, an incense holder, and a silver holder that you can put ghee and a wick inside.


  1. Fresh Flowers:

Lord Ganesha has to be offered various fresh flowers and there are some that are specifically asked to be taken note of, for example Hibiscus is considered an important flower. The important part is that the flowers picked are fresh and is not dirty or picked from the floor in any way.


  1. Chanting names of Lord Ganesha:

The elephant god has nearly 1001 names and one of the ways of remembering and worshiping is chanting the various names of Lord Ganesha. Any bhajan or chants and mantras that include the various names of lord Ganesha are important to be called out on the important days.


  1. Dhurva and its importance:

One of the very important offering to Lord Ganesha is Dhurva, the grass that was used to pacify Ganeshas stomach when he battled and swallowed demon Analasura. Dhurva is hence a very important part of the pujas and rituals performed for any Ganesh Puja.
